Paul M Vermeulen

Chief Executive Officer (CEO), MediGuide International
With more than 30 years of executive experience leading international insurance companies, Paul brings a deep understanding of all aspects of the industry. Throughout his career Paul has lived on four different continents in various countries, running mature operations, turnarounds and startups. After serving in various strategic and leadership positions at the likes of AIG, ACE and Zurich Life, most recently as President and CEO at April International, he joined MediGuide as CEO of MediGuide Insurance Services International. In 2015, he was appointed Group CEO.

Ultimately responsible for group performance, he oversees MediGuide International’s overall operations, guides the organization’s business development initiatives globally, providing key tactical leadership within the organization.

Dr. Jonathan Wiesen

Chief Medical Officer, MediGuide International
Dr. Jonathan Wiesen is a pulmonary and critical care physician, teacher, researcher and medical technology pioneer with a passion for clinical medicine and telehealth innovation.

Graduating from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine with distinction in research, he completed his training in internal medicine as well as pulmonary and critical care at the Cleveland Clinic - earning an advanced teaching degree and several teaching and research awards.

As founder and chief medical officer of MediOrbis, he led the development of ground-breaking clinical programs for monitoring and managing chronic medical conditions and providing integrated medical specialty services. He also piloted the development of a global network of top physicians to deliver the company’s telemedicine services worldwide.

Currently, Dr. Wiesen is a pulmonary specialist at Ben Gurion University’s Soroka Medical Center, where he directs the Cardio-Pulmonary Exercise Program. For many years, he has advised and assessed medical technology companies and served on the board of several companies, specializing in clinical assessment and due diligence. He joined MediGuide International as Medical Director in December 2019.

Kevin Thomas

Senior Vice President Global Operations, MediGuide International
Kevin has more than 25 years of experience in the international medical assistance and Third Party Administration (TPA) industries, managing clients across Africa, Europe, the Americas and Asia.

Before joining the MediGuide team in 2015 as Vice President of Global Operations, he served in an executive assistance capacity at MSO International and as Chief Operations Officer (COO) at InterHealth Technologies in South Africa. As COO, he led the operations team responsible for overseeing international medical assistance operations for numerous assistance companies around the world. He also undertook TPA work for AXA PPP Healthcare across Africa and established TPA and medical assistance companies in Egypt and Afghanistan.

Kara Connor

Senior Vice President Clinical Operations, MediGuide International
As Senior Vice President of Clinical Operations, Kara leads the team responsible for connecting our members to world leading medical centers and providing answers to their medical concerns. She also plays a key role in the development of new services.

Kara has more than 20 years of experience in business and hospital settings. Prior to joining MediGuide she worked as a Registered Nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital in various clinical areas. Kara also served in a strategic leadership capacity at Best Doctors, working within the business operation to help build a clinical team and operational workflow that supported multiple service lines including a second opinion service in the US and internationally.

Susan L Kelley

Financial Controller, MediGuide International
Susan has 30 years of accounting and auditing experience and joined MediGuide in 2017 as Financial Controller. She is responsible for all company accounting operations, primarily treasury, receivables, payables, foreign exchange management, and regulatory compliance with local, state and federal reporting requirements.

As a certified public accountant, she has worked in various industries including global healthcare insurance, hospitality and professional services firms that provide auditing services in the government sector related to unclaimed property. Prior to joining the MediGuide team, she was the Senior Audit Manager at Speciality Audit Services, LLC. The company specializes in unclaimed property examinations for compliance with state unclaimed property laws or escheat laws.

Jayesh Rajdev

CEO and Co-founder, MediGuide India
Jayesh has more than 15 years of experience in reinsurance, with a strong focus on innovative health insurance solutions in the South Asian region. His expertise includes the design and structuring of various insurance products, which, new to South Asian markets, are backed by strong reinsurance and ancillary support.

As a fourth-generation insurance professional, Jayesh brings to MediGuide in-depth knowledge and understanding of a fast-growing and dynamic Indian insurance market, and is primarily responsible for business development for that market. He is also an Associate Member of the Chartered Insurance Institute, UK.

Gus Munro

Director, MediGuide Africa
Gus brings to MediGuide, more than 40 years of experience in the South African insurance brokering and underwriting market. He is an Associate Member of the Chartered Insurance Institute, UK, the Insurance Institute of South Africa and is a Lloyd’s Coverholder in South Africa.

In 1998, he became a founding member and Executive Director of Johannesburg Stock Exchange listed, Glenrand MIB Limited, one of South Africa’s largest insurance broking companies. He was responsible for the group’s new business development focusing on their five underwriting management agencies (UMAs). In 2006, he sold the UMAs and joined Travel Insurance Consultants, specialists in international travel insurance, another company he founded in 1998. In 2014 he joined his son, Andrew, in a family operated accident and health underwriting agency, Praesidio Risk Managers, who are shareholders in MediGuide Africa.

Enrique Blanco

Business Development, Latin America, MediGuide International
Enrique has more than 30 years of experience in the insurance and financial services industries at various companies including Citibank, AIG, Credit Agricole, and Chubb Insurance. He has a postgraduate degree in Strategic Marketing from Georgetown University.

Enrique’s insurance expertise lies in employee benefits, personal accident, health, and credit life. With his extensive insurance company and broker network in Latin America, and having specialized in alternative distribution on multiple projects, he is well positioned to help guide future growth for MediGuide in the Latin American market.

Wojciech Dzieżyc

Business Development, MediGuide Poland
Wojciech has more than 10 years of insurance experience in business and health services in Poland and joined MediGuide in 2017. Committed to bringing innovative health insurance solutions to the Polish market, he oversees MediGuide’s operations in Poland, focusing on business development.

He brings extensive knowledge of the Polish Insurance Market and prior experience providing medical second opinion solutions to Polish cancer patients. Wojciech has a Masters Degree in Foreign Affairs and Diplomacy from the School of Business at National Louis University and a Masters Degree in International Business from the University of Wollongong.

Amelia Yang

Regional Director, Asia, MediGuide International
Amelia is a senior professional with more than 20 years of experience in the insurance and healthcare industries. Pre-MediGuide she worked for various Fortune 500 companies. These included CPIC Allianz Health (specialty health insurer), Cigna (comprehensive medical plan and service provider), AIG (property and casualty underwriter), and China Life (life insurer).

Cross-function management roles included: P&L, product innovation and design, corporate marketing and communication, product positioning, branding and promotion, digital business with operating process re-engineering, business channel management, and supplier network management. Amelia also brings with her an extensive network of influencers in the health industrial and medical ecosystem.

Shamal Smith

Director, MediGuide Australia
Shamal has more than 15 years of strategic and leadership experience at international insurance companies, including AIG and Oman Insurance. Having specialised in alternative distribution together with his in-depth knowledge of the financial services industry, Shamal is well placed to guide future growth for MediGuide in the Australian and New Zealand markets.

He has a Post Graduate Diploma from the Chartered Institute of Marketing UK, a Diploma of Insurance Brokering, and is a National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) Qualified Practising Insurance Broker (QPIB). Shamal is also an ANZIIF (Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance) Senior Associate Certified Insurance Professional (CIP).
